Wetherby winner

Mark Howes, Phillip Mosey & Brian Lovewell

Phillip Mosey from Gotch’s Electrical in Selby was the winner of our champagne prize draw at the retra North East Mini Trade Show at the Bridge Hotel, Walshford, Wetherby, on Tuesday 19th April. Phil is shown here receiving his prize from our Sales Manager, Mark Howes, with retra President Brian Lovewell on the right.

As well as putting a smile on Phil’s face, Mark was kept busy talking to retailers about Orpheus Retail and the other services we offer to help retailers beat the downturn.

E-mail marketing success at Lakes

We have recently run a highly successful e-mail capture competition with one of our major customers, Lakes. The aim was to significantly increase the acquisition of customer e-mail addresses at the point of sale in every store. Our Open-Retail software prompts sales staff to capture customer e-mail addresses when an order is being processed in store (if there is not already one in the database). The competition with Lakes ran for three months, awarding vouchers to the salesperson who captured the most customer e-mails every month. The results exceeded everyone’s expectations with thousands of e-mail addresses collected. The winning sales people achieved an average capture rate of 76% of all customers willingly giving their e-mail addresses and opting in to receiving e-mail promotions.

Says Richard Mingay, Managing Director of Lakes, “we have continued to set e-mail capture targets for our sales team and are now adding over 600 usable addresses every month. We are delighted that Cromwell sponsored this competition and that Open-Retail made it such an easy task to perform at the point of sale. The entire campaign has proved to be very profitable. It boosted staff morale by generating a real buzz and competitive spirit in the stores – and has been an overwhelming success.”

Cromwell supports retra in Northern Ireland

Mark presents the bubbly to Catherine Hutchinson

Cromwell are very pleased to have supported the retra Northern Ireland Trade Show which was held at the Massareene Golf Club in Antrim on Tuesday 8th March. The event was organised by Ian MacDonald, retra Insurance Services’ business development manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Our sales manager, Mark Howes, was kept busy talking to dealers about our Windows-based Orpheus Retail system which is so well suited to small and medium-sized retailers with no current IT systems or with IT that is not adequately supporting their businesses. The winner of our Moet & Chandon Champagne prize draw was Catherine Hutchinson of Basil Knipe Electrics in Ballymoney, Co. Antrim, shown here receiving her prize from Mark.

Cromwell supporting retra 2011 conference

We are delighted to be once again supporting the 2011 retra annual conference which will be held at the Wyndham Grand Chelsea Harbour Hotel from the 11th to 12th April. Says Sonu Kundi, Commercial Director, “the retra conference is one of our industry’s most valuable events. It brings together a host of highly influential and informed people to share ideas on improving and strengthening our industry. Plus, it provides the perfect opportunity for us to showcase our integrated IT solutions which equip consumer electronics retailers, whether small or large, with everything they need to improve the service levels and profitability of their businesses.”

Cromwell’s Marathon Man

Two-thirds of Team McLaughlin (Dave & Wendy)

Dave McLaughlin, Customer Support Manager, is running his second London Marathon this year. He will be joined by his wife, Wendy, who has not previously run a Marathon, and his sister, Barbara, who ran the London Marathon in 2009 and 2010. The intrepid trio are already well into their 16 week training schedule which builds from running 30 miles a week to running 45 miles a week (including four 20 mile runs on different weekends).

Says Dave: “Both Wendy and Barbara are aiming to finish in under 5 hours but my target is under 4 hours 30 minutes. I was bitterly disappointed that injury kept me from running the London Marathon in 2010 (although I did compete in the Great North Run), so this is my chance to see what I can achieve. We are running for the charity MIND which supports people with mental health illness. It’s a fantastic charity that does brilliant work, so if anyone would like to sponsor Team McLaughlin please go to our page at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/teammclaughlin. Wish us luck on Sunday 17th April!”

Cromwell sparkles at retra Centre meetings

Leicestershire Symposium winner Michael Moncaster (left)

Len Mees (left) - our Derby Centre prize-winner

One of our most successful – and enjoyable – activities over the last year has been to participate in the retra Centre meetings which have been held throughout the UK. These give us the opportunity to meet face-to-face with a wide range of retailers, to discuss their business challenges and to demonstrate our comprehensive and brilliant value Orpheus Retail windows-based application.

At every event we run a champagne draw – and here we see our UK salesman, Mark Howes, presenting bottles to Mr. Len Mees of L R Mees Ltd (at the Derby Centre meeting) and Mr. Michael Moncaster of Peter Rhodes (at the Leicestershire Symposium) in early November. We will be participating in more retra meetings throughout 2011 so please come along and meet Mark – you’ll find him “sparkling” company!

Cromwell ‘on the ball’ – and we prove it!

Our winning team!

We were certainly up to scratch at Retra’s first ever national Golf Tournament which took place at Woburn Golf course recently! Our Commercial Director Sonu Kundi scooped the top prize - the National Trophy – while one of our customers, Pam Baggott from Slaney’s of Hinckley, won the Lady’s Cup. Sonu and Pam were part of the two teams we had playing in this year’s contest which took place on the Duke’s course. Other Cromwell customers were Vic Wood (Darling & Wood) and Trevor Scothern (Harry Garlick). A total of 71 players took part in the Tournament and a charity raffle later in the evening raised more than £1,000 in aid of the President’s nominated charity, Cure Parkinson Trust. The retra golfers return to Woburn next year to play the Marquess course on September 8th.

Cromwell demonstrate full range of services at CIH Trade Show

Our irresistible Champagne tasting competition

Cromwell exhibited at the CIH Trade Show at the NEC in Birmingham on 12th -13th September. We demonstrated the full range of our software, web capability and integrated services. Retailers can choose from our flagship hosted Open-Retail application, which has been the industry’s leading solution for almost two decades, or our newly-launched Windows-based Orpheus Retail system which can be run on a retailer’s own server.

We also demonstrated our comprehensive web design and development capability, which gives retailers a choice of websites from a simple Home Page (showing details such as address and services); an Online Catalogue; Reserve & Collect functionality; up to fully transactional sites completely integrated with our software application.

Megan and Lucy who ran the very popular truffle-tasting competition at the retra conference in April, once again added some “bubbly” personality to our stand running a champagne tasting competition and giving delegates the chance to win a magnum of Bollinger.
